I’ve always liked cooking. Even as a kid. I guess it was part greed, but it’s also about the challenge of getting it right (or not), other people’s enjoyment and using my hands productively. Life drifts odd ways and most of my working life I was a university lecturer (27 years). I enjoyed teaching but having a restaurant and a chance to cook felt like a rebirth. A challenge in so many ways, but rewarding also in so many ways.
The restaurant along with the rest of economy has struggled with Covid. On a personal level I’ve struggled with the effects of a severe stroke that left me unable to walk for a few months. But still, when the candles are lit and we’re producing unpretentious reasonably priced food for appreciative customers, I feel lucky.
